Tamar Beria

Tamar Beria joined the IPHR team in January 2019 as a Project Officer, with her initial
focus on establishing IPHR’s branch in Tbilisi, Georgia. She served as the Tbilisi office
director from May 2019 to September 2022, overseeing daily operations and managing
the local team of over ten people. In parallel, Tamar was in charge of various programs
across Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.

As of September 2022, Tamar is based at IPHR’s Brussels office while completing her
advanced master’s degree in cultural anthropology and development studies at KU
Leuven. She continues to be the co-director of the Tbilisi office and serves as the
program manager for the EECA region. Her contributions to IPHR include program
management, coordination, research, financial supervision, fundraising, representation,
and human resources.

Tamar holds a diverse academic background, including a Bachelor’s degree in law from
Tbilisi State University, a Master’s degree in Human Rights from the University of Essex,
and a Master’s degree in Gender studies from Tbilisi State University. She is a
distinguished Chevening scholarship scholar. Prior to joining IPHR, Tamar held various
positions in grassroots youth, feminist, and LGBTQ+ organisations in Georgia.

Throughout her career, she has taken on diverse roles in the United Kingdom, Poland,
and China. Tamar is also a trainer specialising in women’s rights, human rights
education, and social justice, and offering a critical feminist perspective on human rights
law. She speaks Georgian, Russian, English and German. She is learning French and
