Mariam joined the Legal Team of the IPHR in September 2023 as a Junior Legal Officer. She is responsible for contributing to the legal team’s work in monitoring atrocity crimes and gross human rights violations, drafting submissions to the International Criminal Court, as well as on cases subject to universal jurisdiction.
Mariam holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in law from the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and is pursuing a PhD degree in international criminal law, international humanitarian law and human rights at the European University Viadrina, Germany.
Prior to joining the IPHR, Mariam worked at the Prosecutor General’s Office and other governmental bodies of Georgia, participated in the ICC&ICL Programme of the International Bar Association in 2022 and was a Visiting Professional to the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court in 2023.
Mariam speaks Georgian, English, German, and Russian. The main focus of her academic and professional activities is the protection of property and other protected objects during armed conflicts and occupations.
