Consolidated Recommendations from Civil Society Monitoring in the Fergana Valley
International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) and Mehrjon Centre for Women and Children are pleased to announce the final round table of the EU-funded project “Empowering Civil Society to Promote and Protect Human Rights, Vulnerable Groups, and the Environment in Selected Regions of Uzbekistan.” The event took place today in Ferghana, Uzbekistan.
The round table brought together grassroots civil society organisations (CSOs) from the Fergana, Namangan, and Andijan regions, along with representatives of local authorities and regional institutions. Over the past two years, IPHR and Mehrjon have run a programme of capacity building, training and support for CSOs in the Ferghana Valley region in Uzbekistan. This included supporting 18 local CSOs in conducting community-based monitoring and awareness-raising initiatives focused on the protection of vulnerable groups.
During the event, CSO partners presented their key findings and consolidated recommendations to local authorities, based on extensive fieldwork carried out throughout 2024–2025. Particular attention was given to issues affecting women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and other at-risk groups, as well as environmental challenges identified at the community level.
The round table aimed to create an open and constructive platform for dialogue between civil society and government stakeholders, encouraging collaboration on strengthening human rights protection, promoting social inclusion, and improving access to essential services. Discussions also explored pathways for continued cooperation beyond the project’s lifetime, highlighting successful practices and lessons learned in the Fergana Valley.
