Uzbekistan: NGOs publish joint submission to CESCR on key issues of concerns

International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) and the Association for Human Rights in Central Asia (AHRCA) have prepared a joint submission to the UN’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) to provide information ahead of the committee’s consultations with civil society in the lead-up to its examination of Uzbekistan’s third periodic report on the country’s implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which is scheduled to take place on 22 and 23 February 2022.

The submission is made up of three thematic chapters, covering, respectively: non-discrimination, particular with respect to LGBTIQ individuals; forced evictions; and health. Each thematic chapter concludes with a list of suggested recommendations to the Uzbekistani authorities. Particular attention is given to healthcare and conditions in the women’s prison colony in Zangiata, Tashkent.

On 10 January 2022, IPHR and Uzbekistani women’s rights defenders submitted a document to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women about domestic violence against women. Please refer to that document here for relevant information.

The CESCR submission can be viewed as a pdf document:
